The Beauty of ‘Not-Knowing’
Dr Sudhansu Dash
We all seek answer to our questions in different ways, but the fact is that there is no answer. So the search ends in futility leading to utter frustration. This is the only reason why one is suffering a spiritual dissatisfaction in mind. The existence is hopelessly merciless not to answer any question. There is not at all ‘an answer’ but there is ‘the answer ‘and the answer is not at all of the mind. That answer cannot be of the mind. Mind is a multiplicity. Mind has answers and answers but not ‘the answer’. That answer is a state of no –mind. That is not verbal. One can know it but one cannot reduce it to knowledge. One can know it but one cannot say it. It is a light that simply illuminates one’s interiority. It is not an answer to ay particular question .It is the end of all questioning. it refers to no question at all. It simply dissolves all questions and a state is left without any question. That is ‘the answer’. Unless that is known, nothing is known. Hence one may feel that one knows the answer, still questions will go on coming up and tortures. The questions are bound to arise because the root is not cut yet so new leaves will sprout.
The root is cut when one disconnects oneself from the mind. When one becomes so aware ,so watchful to see the mind as a separate entity from oneself , when all identities  with the mind are dropped , when one is a watcher of the mind, just  a pure witness, but not getting identified with anything , either good or bad, sinner or saint , this or that . in that witnessing all questions dissolves, the mind melts , evaporates ad one left as a pure being, just a pure existence. Utterly in this moment , there is no past , no future and hence no present either Unless that state arises , one will feel many times that one knows the answer , but each answer will create only new questions. One can read, one can think, but one will get more and more in  trap of the mind, more and more identified. Slip out of the mind. Hence ,there is not an answer but the answer. It is a state of utter silence; no thought .It is the state of no-mind. Hence the truth comes of its own accord. One need not go anywhere. It comes .One need not even seek and search as how can one seek and search out of ignorance? In ignorance whatever one does, will be more an ignorance. Out of ignorance wherever one goes one will go astray. Out of ignorance how ca one find clarity? Out of confusion one will be more and more confused I search of clarity. To be silent is to have the answer. To be silent is to be without question and the root is cut and no leaf will arise. When one says that one knows the answer, that is only an illusion and the mind is very clever in creating new illusions. The mind is very deceptive for it deceives one in knowledge too. It ca even make one believe that one is enlightened already. The only enemy is the mind and one is to be very much aware of it. There is no other enemy. The enemy is not somebody outside .It is one’s own mind that goes on tempting, cheating ad deceiving in creating new illusions .By watching the mind questions will disappear ,It does not mean that one knows the answer , o the contrary one has no question. One’s whole being has become the answer.
Thousands of universities exist, thousands of scriptures exist but has any given the answer? What they give are simply information that  one can get anywhere .One can be knowledgeable anywhere. Here but the purpose is but to make one unlearned what so ever one has learned, to make one innocent so that one would shift for a state of not-knowing. So that one has no answer, so that one is just like a small child mirroring reality Perception is there but not cloudy with knowledge. No dust on the mirror and one reflects which is ad out of that reflection, whatever action arises is virtue.
